Jaffna lands released for cultivation

Paddy lands in the High Security Zone in Ariyale, Jaffna which were not cultivated upto now have been released to its owners for paddy cultivation.

Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said on the instructions of Presidential Special Task Force on Rehabilitations and Resettlement, Chairman, Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP, these abandoned paddy lands have been released to its owners to recommence paddy cultivation.

Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has advised the authorities to take immediate measures to release all lands in the North to its owners under the Uthuru Vasanthaya program.

Accordingly, 509 people were also resettled in their native places in the High Security Zone in Palali, Jaffna recently.

"The Government will provide facilities to recommence their livelihood in their original lands," he said.
