Senior lawyers felicitated

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka recently felicitated seventeen distinguished senior lawyers at the Galadari Hotel who had completed 50 years at the Bar.

Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Supreme Court Judge Justice Saleem Marsoof PC, Several Senior and Junior Judicial Officers, Attorney General President’s Counsel Mohan Peiris, Solicitor General Priyasad Dep and several senior and junior members of the Official and Unofficial Bar also participated at the ceremony.

The seventeen senior lawyers who have completed 50 years at the BAR are President’s Counsel Ananda Wijesekera, President’s Counsel R. I. Obeyesekere, P. B. Herath, M. Rene Fernando, Ms. S. Murugasan, Kirthsiri Jayasinghe, Ms. I.D. Goonetilleke, Ms. E.M.P.N. Arthenayake, N.B.D.S. Wijesekera, U.C.B. Ratnayake, V. Vanniasinkam, F.N. de Silva, N.H. Gunaratne, W.H. Niriella, P.A.D. Samarasekera, R.D. Senanayake and K.P.J. de Silva. UNDP National Coordinator Sharmala Rasool, UNDP Project Officers Charok Samarasekera and Sunare Samsudeen represented the UNDP at the Ceremony.

The BASL has introduced a novel concept to appreciate the assistance rendered by its members and other well-wishes in achieving its goals during the last two years.

The assistance and cooperation extended by the UNDP was highly commended for if not for their assistance the BASL could not have accomplished most of the welfare activities towards its Outstanding Members, said BASL Secretary U. R. de Silva. The BASL also expressed its gratitude to Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and its Chairperson Ms. Leisha de Silva Chandrasena who extended their assistance to all BASL activities, the BASL Secretary added.

Participants who had successfully completed the “Effective Instructing Attorneys’ Course” and Training Course on “Criminal Defence” also received their awards at the ceremony.
