ID documents to vote
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has informed that any of
the following identity cards is necessary for an eligible voter to cast
his/her vote at the forthcoming Presidential election on January 26,
2010.
1) National Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration of
Persons.
2) Valid Passport.
3) Valid Driving Licence.
4) Government Pensioner’s Identity Card.
5) Senior Citizen’s Identity Card / Elders Identity Card.
6) Identity Card for clergy issued by the Department of Registration
of Persons.
7) Temporary Identity Card issued by the Department of Registration
of Persons.
8) Temporary Identity Card issued by the Department of Elections.
9) Temporary Identity Card issued by the Department of Elections for
Provincial Council Elections held in 2009. (This should have been
countersigned by Deputy / Senior Assistant / Asst. Commissioner of
Elections).
Instructions have also been issued to accept the temporary identity
card issued by the Department of Elections as per details of the voters
register for 2007 for all Provincial Councils (other than the Eastern
Provincial Council Election) at following booths. Applications for
temporary identity cards issued by the Department of Elections had
closed on January 15 while applications for temporary identity cards
issued by the Department of Registration of Persons will be accepted
until January 21, 2010. These temporary identity cards will be issued by
the respective grama seva niladhari of the area or the estate
superintendent (for estate areas).
In the event of anyone not possessing any one of the identity cards
stated above. Such person should get in touch with the grama niladaris
of the area/or estate superintendent and obtain a temporary identity
card, press release from Elections Secretariat stated. |
