On January 26, the people of this country will tell the world they
are against separatism, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday
addressing the massive UPFA election rally at Ambalangoda. He
emphatically stated that he would not allow anyone to betray the hard
earned freedom won.
The President said the people of this country should teach a lesson
to those who attempt to betray the country and its unity. President
Rajapaksa questioned the democratic credentials of the Opposition who
had threatened a senior journalist for revealing in the newspaper
Lankadeepa agreements signed between the TNA and the NDF candidate.
If this is the situation before the election how worst would it be if
they were vested with power, the President also queried.
President Rajapaksa addressing the gathering commended that he had
never seen such a crowd in any of the rallies he participated at
Ambalangoda earlier.
When the people handed over the country to him the country was
divided. There was an LTTE controlled area with LTTE Police, banks,
forces and lawyers.
They had their separate Identity Cards and Prabakaran’s ID was number
one.
He said that amidst many difficulties he won the battle against the
LTTE. “But I cannot say that the victory was my own. Many have supported
the victory,” the President added. He said that newspapers revealed that
there were agreements signed to merge North and East provinces, to
withdraw camps in those areas, to grant self-rule in presence foreign
witnesses.
