President, only leader minorities can trust

Former member of the Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party’s Working Committee and former deputy mayor of Colombo Azath Sally yesterday announcing his unconditional support to ensure President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory in the Presidential election said the President is the only leader that minority parties can trust and depend on for their prosperity.

Speaking to the media Sally said the UNP today cannot even appoint a party organizer for Kotte. It has become a party that does not give right place to right people. He said they have just then appointed a Muslim organizer after he had left the party.

Explaining why he gave up the UNP, Azath Sally said it was due to the party leadership taking a decision not to contest the Presidential Election. This was not his own decision . It was a decision taken by him on the influence of international powers.

The leader of the party had printed his election manifesto when Sarath Fonseka left for America.

I was the only politician who said that Fonseka was going to return to the country as an American candidate.

Fonseka said he would not give any statement to the media until he puts down his uniform. But he talked with UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe from there for 92 minutes. He also spoke with JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.

This was the time the conspiracy was being planned out, he said.

”Is the UNP a party that can sit with the JVP?,” he asked. “ The JVP killed the chairman of our party and also responsible for killing over 6,000 party supporters. Today the UNP is working with the JVP hand in hand .

Who stands in the way of President Mahinda Rajapaksa besides these local forces. They are US, UK, Europe, and Norway,” he pointed out.

They want to expel President Rajapaksa from his seat at any cost because he is an independent leader who will not give into their whims and fancies.

It was these external forces that asked Wickremesinghe to withdraw his candidacy for the election and decided to position Sarath Fonseka for their sinister purpose.

He said Sarath Fonseka was scheming this with America even when he was in the uniform.
