Stern action against police personnel - IGP warns
The Police Department will take stern action
against errant police personnel irrespective of their positions who
violate Election Laws. The Police Department had taken action
against several police personnel who had violated the Election Laws
recently. If found guilty to the charges preferred against them, the
police personnel will be removed from the Police Department,
Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya told a media briefing
at the Police Headquarters yesterday.

Foreigners arrested for overstaying visa
Fourteen foreigners were arrested after
breaching conditions in their on-arrival tourist visas, which they
obtained at the port of entry in Sri Lanka. Immigration and
Emigration Department, Investigation Unit Head, Assistant Controller
W. Devendraraja said sleuths had arrested the illegal immigrants as
they had violated Sri Lankan visa regulations.

More weapons recovered
Police recovered a large stock of arms and
ammunition in two different locations in the East following a search
operation on Monday. Police spokesman SSP I.M. Karunaratna said
following information, the Muttur police launched a search operation
and uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Ganeshapuram on
Monday at around 1.30pm.
