Pura Neguma launched today

Pura Neguma, a concept of Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda will start today (Jan 2) with a 'Shramadana' organized at the Maligawatte Housing Complex at 9.00 a.m..

The Minister will join hands with the citizens in implementing a project which heralds much potential for the urban population. Pura Neguma concentrates on the morale uplift and overall social and economic development of urban areas.

Following a study conducted in 2008 by the Sri Jayawardenapura University, Social Studies Department, it was revealed that 15,000 out of the 33,000 prison inmates were from urban areas; with a high concentration of drug trafficking and other illegal activities in the overpopulated shanty areas.

The 'Pura Neguma' will address developing the quality of life in urban areas through various approaches, including clearing up the recognized areas, developing public facilities and creating employment opportunities.

A hundred million rupees has been allocated for this.
