Devotees flock Sri Dalada Maligawa

Devotees from all four corners of the country flocked to the Sri Dalada Maligawa yesterday.. Picture by Udeni Rajapaksa

Tens of thousands of people including Buddhist devotees flocked to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy from all four corners of the country yesterday to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic and usher in the New Year with religious observances hoping for a bright and prosperous future. Vast crowds were seen at the Maligawa on Thursday too as it was Unduwap Poya day.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara attributed the large crowds present on both days to the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country where people could move freely without fear and suspicion.
