Vavuniya resettlement program on course

The total number of the Internally Displaced Persons housed in the welfare villages of Vavuniya is only 80,000 now.

Some of the IDPs are going to work in the mornings and returning in the evening now as they were allowed to go out of the villages.

The Government still provides them with all relief facilities, Vavuniya District Secretary P.S.M. Charles said yesterday.

The resettlement program was being expedited and another 3,790 IDPs were resettled at Nedunkerni in the recent days.

The road development program will start during this month with a new road from Puliyankulam through Nedunkerni to Oddusudan and another road from Neriyakulam, Nelumkulam to Chettikulam to be built with assistance from the People's Republic of China, she said.

Most school buildings in the district have been renovated under the North East Development program, she also said.
