England call up Carberry as Collingwood cover

England have drafted uncapped Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry into their squad for the third Test against South Africa as cover for Paul Collingwood, British media reported Wednesday.

Collingwood suffered a finger injury in fielding practice ahead of the fourth day of England's second Test victory and, although X-rays revealed the Durham batsman had broken no bones, Carberry was called up in case he doesn't make the Cape Town clash, which starts on January 3.

Left-hander Carberry, 29, made a century for England Lions against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl last year and scored more than 1,200 runs in county cricket in 2009. LONDON, AFP
