Fonseka’s devani meheyuma, a mockery - Minister Chandrasena

Nation Building Minister S.M. Chandrasena said it was a mockery for Sarath Fonseka to claim a mandate at the forthcoming election to commence his second operation “devani meheyuma”.

Minister S.M. Chandrasena

“It is only President Mahinda Rajapaksa who successfully ended the first phase by routing the LTTE terrorists including it’s leaders paving the way for the dawn of permanent peace for the whole country”.

“Now he is seeking the wholehearted support of the nation to commence his second operation to attain economic emancipation and prosperity to Sri Lanka”.

The Minister was addressing UPFA activists and supporters at his Anuradhapura office premises. He said four years ago only 60 percent of the population in Anuradhapura district had electricity. Today the power supply has been expanded to 95 percent. This is on par with Mahinda Chintana. The road network in the region has been upgraded and expanded. On January 18, 2010 construction work of the Puttalam-Anuradhapura - Trincomalee highway is scheduled to commence. This project will follow the modernization of Maradankadawala - Habarana, Batticaloa road, Galenbindunawewa - Ganewelpola road, Medawachchiya - Horowpothana road and Kebithigollewa - Horowpothana road.

He said on the instructions of the President when the war against LTTE was at its peak the Yan Oya development project was initiated at Ellapothana in Horowpothana area. The construction work of two canals along the left and south banks of Yan Oya were completed. There would be a giant reservoir second to Moragahakanda in Wahalkada area under the phase II of the Yan-Oya Irrigational Development scheme. The whole exercise would cost Rs. 5,500 million.
