The Government will appoint 12,400 Jana Saba Lekam posts in all Grama
Seva divisions islandwide as part of the village centered development
effort to create new employment opportunities in the country, he said.
These new positions will be in addition to the existing
administrative officials, Grama Niladhari and Samurdhi Niyamaka in those
Grama Seva divisions the Minister added.
Moreover, decision making powers would be decentralized allowing
villagers to make decisions regarding the matters in the respective
divisions and necessary funds will be allocated from the National
budget, he said.
The Minister said this administrative system would be somewhat
similar to the Panchayath sabha in India.
The Government was able to provide 54,000 employment opportunities
for graduates amidst the global economic downturn, Sri Lanka becoming
the only country to do so.
There were 525,000 students who sat for the last G.C.E.O/L
examination and 250,000 for the G.C.E.A/Ls. But the Opposition doesn't
have the answer to the question as to how they would provide this young
population with employment opportunities and uplift their lives with
English and IT education.
The Government intends to make a big leap in education and develop
the country in the future, he said. |
