Jaffna University Students say no to polls boycott
The Jaffna University Students' Federation (JUSF) said it was not
wise to ask the people not to vote at the Presidential Election as in
the past. It was unreasonable to contest as independents, the JUSF said.
The statement added that changes in the economic approach affected all
the people due globalization. "It was thought that the international
community and organization would bring freedom.
But, western and regional powers did everything suitable only to
their economic, political and military interests."
The JUSF stressed the need to take constructive decisions considering
future and destiny of the Tamil community.
Therefore, it is necessary to use even the smallest trump. High
sounding words of community leaders should be identified.
They did not realize the reality but safeguard their own interests.
The statement added that the tamil diaspora expressed various views
without understanding the real situation in the North and emphasized the
need to correct the erroneous remarks. The Tamil National Alliance is
divided into various factions and it was unable to decide whom it should
support. Contesting of TNA parliamentarians at the Presidential Election
would only divide the votes and it was not wise to do so.
The past has taught what effects would be in store if emotional
decisions are taken.
Therefor, it is necessary to forget the differences and to work for a
prosperous future, the statement added (MPM)
