Sri Lanka's gems stun Jaipur

National Gem and Jewellery Authority Chairman/CEO, Hasitha Tillekeratne said that the National Gem and Jewellery Authority organized "Sri Lanka Pavilion" at the seventh Jaipur Jewellery Show in Jaipur India from December 19 to 22 for the first time. Three hundred and seventy five exhibitors and a record number of visitors turned the event to an unprecedented success with both exhibitors and buyers confirming orders during the four days of the show.

Backed by the firm growth of the retail market and overall economy in the recent years, Jaipur is one of the cities of India with a continuous production of Gems and Gem studded jewellery to the Indian and European markets, Jaipur is the productive city of the gem and jewellery industry of India.

Since its launch in 2002, the Jaipur Jewellery Show has been a major attraction of the Indian Gem and Jewellery Industry which is attended by both local traders as well as traders firmly dispersed throughout the world including New York and HongKong.

Tillekeratne said that the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) as the Government regulatory body to develop, promote and regulate the gem and jewellery industry in Sri Lanka, considers facilitation of Sri Lankan gem and jewellery trading community for participation in international trade fairs throughout the world as a major promotional activity.

The NGJA has identified India as a highly potential market to promote Sri Lankan gems and accordingly NGJA has organized a "Sri Lanka Pavilion" in this event as a major initiative.

Tillekeratne said that the "National Pavilion" which showcased a glittering array of gems from Sri Lanka presented by six trading companies attracted buyers from India and other leading trading companies based throughout the world.
