SLFP Mahajana Wing supports UPFA

SLFP Mahajana Wing Convenor and former Southern Provincial Council member Nassar Akram said a large number of Mahajana wing supporters have joined with him to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s candidature at the forthcoming Presidential Election by identifying themselves as the law abiding section of the ‘Mahajana Wing.’

He was addressing a press conference after a seminar held at the Saumya Reception Hall, Polhena, Matara to pledge support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming election.

Akram who claimed that almost 90 percent of Mahajana Wing supporters are with him and said they first decided to part ways with Samaraweera after he started the Defence Watch website.

He alleged that Samaraweera deceived them before crossing over to the Opposition benches saying the President was conducting the war in a wrong manner after neglecting the SLFP. Then it was they who induced Samaraweera to set up the Mahajana Wing without joining the UNP or entering into any agreement with it. However, Samaraweera had failed to heed their warnings.

That is why they have now decided to join with the President and work for the future well-being of the country without seeking any individual privileges.

Akram said Samaraweera would have to go into liberation abroad when the so called main opposition candidate is defeated at the forthcoming election.

Mahajana Wing Matara Municipal Member Indika Manamperi, Vice President Mahajana Wing All Ceylon Youth Organisation Amila Wijesinghe, Matara Pradeshiya Sabha Member Ajith Paranavithane, Samaraweera’s former Parliamentary Secretary A.H. Mahendra, District Youth Officer Sarath Amarasiri, Lalith Weligamage and Mahajana Wing Working Committee member F. Jayaweera were also present.
