Lankan scores at inventors fair

Sri Lanka proved itself a country full of innovation and creativity with Aruna Samarawickrama winning a special prize at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2009.

This competition held in Seoul, South Korea featured over 1,100 entries from 180 countries. Samarawickrama's invention is an artificial leg, which at present has the closest resemblance to an actual leg.

Thirty-four year old Aruna Samarawickrama, hailing from Matara, is the director of AAWAS International (Pvt) Ltd.

The company manufactures artificial limbs and hopes to launch his innovation in the global market soon.

His achievements include many other awards including the Silver Medal at the 35th International Inventors Competition held in Switzeland in 2005 and the President's Award for Young Inventor in 2005.
