Alleged foreign employment racket :

Ven Dambara Amila arrested

Ven. Dambara Amila Thera was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday, after conducting investigations into several complaints which alleged that the Thera had swindled money from persons with the promise of sending them abroad for employment.

Police spokesman SSP I. M Karunaratne said the CID had made the arrest after conducting investigations into several complaints lodged by affected people to this effect.

The Thera who has been identified as the main suspect in the alleged foreign employment racket was arrested in Thalangama yesterday, SSP Karunaratne said.

He was arrested after 15 complaints were received against him for collecting money with the promise of securing lucrative foreign employment opportunities, he added.

The CID is continuing investigations, the Police said.
