The table tennis players of the school has emerged champions in
several tournaments conducted by the Gampaha District Table Tennis
Association.
Veteran table tennis player Quintus Fernando who introduced the sport
to the school has taken great pains to teach the paddlers basics and
improve their skills. He has received the maximum support of the Gampaha
District Table Tennis Association in his endeavour.
But the biggest drawback has been the lack of table tennis equipment.
In a bid to overcome this problem Quintus Fernando made a request to the
Asian German Sports Exchange program.
The AGSEP in turn contacted a leading coach and a player in Germany
Olga Koop who is visiting Sri Lanka on a holiday and she donated table
tennis racquets for the school.
Koop who was born in Kazakhastan and played for the Kazakhstan junior
national team before migrating to Germany at the age of 15 and played
first division table tennis in Germany before taking up to coaching. |
