Resettled areas to get 53 post offices

Moves are under way to open 53 new post offices in resettled areas. Steps will be taken on a priority basis on President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s instructions, said Posts and Telecommunication Deputy Minister M.S. Sellasamy.

From January, 53 post offices will operate in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts, he added. The Deputy Minister said new postal workers will be appointed and those who serve on a temporary basis made permanent after the Presidential Election.

He added that post offices that were damaged during the war would be reconstructed and all facilities provided. Steps have been taken to distribute pre-paid telephone and internet cards to the public through postal workers, he said.
