Six nations vie for Asian schools chess title

The Asian Schools Chess Championships 2009 started in a grand way, in Colombo Sri Lanka with the participation of six Asian countries. The inauguration was held under the patronage of Custo Abundo, the Vice President of the Asian Chess Federation and Upali Gunasekera, the President of the Schools Chess Association and the Principal of Royal College.

A record, total number of 180 players from six countries, India, Iran, Australia, Malaysia and Yemen with the host, Sri Lanka are participating in this event. The tournament, which is sponsored by the Ceylon Continental Hotel of Sri Lanka is admired by all participants of the high level of hospitality offered for the participants.

The event will continue till December 22, 2009 and Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the First Lady of the country is expected to be the chief guest.
