Claymores recovered

A haul of powerful claymore mines hidden by the LTTE have been
detected by the STF and the Army 68 Division in the Pudukudiyirippu
area. A consignment of 52 powerful claymore mines was recovered at
Udayarkattu in Puthukudiyirippu by the Special Task Force.
Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police I. M.
Karunaratne stated that the consignment included six claymore mines each
weighing about 15 kilograms and 46 claymore mines each weighing 5
kilograms. The operation was carried out by IP NS Jayaweera based on
information received by the STF. Meanwhile the Army’s 68 Division
conducting search operation in the East Pudukudiyirippu area recovered a
large amount of military items including 8 claymore mines weighing 12 kg
each on Saturday.
It also included four M72 A04, 525 artillery fuses, one 60 mm mortar
tube, one Motorola base station, one claymore remote control, 63 hand
grenades, 20 mortar bombs, 10 RPG bombs, 3118 T56 ammunition, 69 MPMG
ammunition, one C90 weapon, two RPG charges, one T56 rifle, nine T56
magazines, three I-Com sets two Yesu communication sets, two SFG
grenades, one LTTE jacket, 19, 122mm bombs, 8 kg of C4 explosives, one
Artillery booster bags, one T81 rifle etc.
In the meantime the Uppuveli Police has recovered a T56 assault
rifle, a magazine, 22 live bullets and a hand grenade in a thicket in
Siripitti in Uppuveli on Saturday evening. |
