UPF decides to vote President

Upcountry People’s Front leader and Community Development and Social
Inequity Eradication Minister P. Chandrasekeran said that his party
would support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming
Presidential Election.
He said that to ensure the future political rights and guarantee
social emancipation of the upcountry people, his party forwarded several
basic demands to all candidates contesting the Presidential Election.
According to the Minister the demands were, the abolishing of the
century-old line system and build separate houses for the plantation
workers, solving the unemployment problem of the younger generation,
encouraging the upcountry society in the economic field and providing
opportunities to eradicate backwardness.
Minister Chandrasekeran said he had requested the Government to
establish new Divisional Secretariats and local government institutions
which could increase the representation in accordance with the
plantation population. Implementation of Tamil Language should not be in
words but in deed.
The UPF has also requested the Government to establish a separate
Tamil University in the Nuwera-Eliya District for the benefit of the
plantation community.
The UPF leader assured that his party would work for the unity and
mutual understanding of all three communities in the country.
Minister Chandrasekeran addressing his party-men said that the
plantation workers should consider the Presidential Election that would
be crucial for the destiny of the community and use their votes wisely
to elect President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile, Senior Presidential Adviser and Parliamentarian Basil
Rajapaksa also addressed the UPF members in Talawakelle yesterday. |
