Lankan judiciary has won people’s confidence - Minister

In a background where the Judicial process in certain countries has led to controversy, the Sri Lanka Judiciary should be commended for wining the people’s confidence, Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne said.

The smooth functioning of the Judicial process of a country will act as a tool for strengthening its democracy, Minister Jayaratne added. He was speaking at a ceremony after opening the entrance to a lawyers’ office building complex in Kandy constructed at a cost of Rs 15 million.

Most countries possess legal systems which had been established in the colonial period. The proper implementation of law and order in a country will lead to minimize conflicts among the people and the society.

It creates an adequate atmosphere for the people to live without any panic and suspicion in a country. Politicians, judges and lawyers should protect the legal system of a country, he said.

Commenting on the military victory over LTTE terrorists, Minister Jayaratne said the political leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa given to the tri Forces should be appreciated and the prestige of defeating terrorism goes to the President.
