MoU signed for precise Sri Lanka Standard Time
An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Science and Technology and
the Government of India to introduce a system to receive and maintain
the precise Sri Lanka Standard Time, based on the Standard Time Service
maintained at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) of India.
According to the MoU, the Sri Lanka Government Agency designated for
the above purpose, the Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies
(ACCIMT), will receive from NPL through Indian Satellites, and maintain,
the precise Sri Lanka Standard Time, which would be accessible by the
desired local institutions, through an inexpensive Telephone-Line-based
technology called ‘Teleclock’.
The service is a gift from the Indian Government and the MoU was
signed by Science and Technology Minister Secretary M.B.A. Ekanayake and
High Commissioner of India, Ashok K Kantha at the Office of the Minister
of Science and Technology.
The event was attended by Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern
Technologies (ACCIMT) Chairman Prof. K.K.Y.W. Perera; ACCIMT Director
and Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Sanath Panawennage; High Commission of
India, Colombo, Counsellor (Economic and Commercial), Santosh Jha and
Science and Technology Ministry Secretary, M.B.A. Ekanayake. |
