NE youth keen on banking studies

There is a lot of interest among young people in Jaffna and the
Eastern areas to engage in banking studies, Institute of Bankers of Sri
Lanka, Director General, S.H.A. M. Abeyratne told Daily News Business.
He said that there were over 5,400 new registrations for next year
and among them many individuals in the North-East have already
registered to follow courses in banking.
The setting up of banks in those areas have shown opportunities for
young people who are eager to secure professional qualifications in
banking. “More than a hundred registrations in Jaffna and other areas
have been done as a result of the presentations made at the Jaffna
University and IBSL accredited centres.
Ten people from Jaffna will be sent to Colombo and given a training
in Micro Finance so that they can train students in Jaffna. Among the 30
people registered for banking 15 percent are from Jaffna,” he said.
He said that the students from Jaffna are keen on studying and they
will complete the course early compared to other students.
As a Government recognized professional education body, the Institute
of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) has approved two
institutes to deliver the CMA qualification, he said.
CMA, Deputy CEO, Devinda Jayasooriya said that students in Jaffna
have shown on an interest to secure foreign qualifications too. |
