Sachin new junior Golf Champion

The three-day Sri Lanka Junior golf Championship sponsored by ‘Prima’
and organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) ended on a triumphant
note for, Sachin de Silva, when yesterday at the RCGC, he dethroned the
reigning champion Dhanika de Silva, to be the new Sri Lanka Junior Golf
Champion.
The 13-year-old Sachin, from British School Colombo, from day one,
held his own against the 60 junior golfers to take the initiative to
take the lead with 78 to Chanaka Perera 80 and Dhanika de Silva’s 81. On
day two, Thursday Chanaka Perera led with 78 to Sachin’s 79 and Dhanika
de Silva’s 81.
On the final day yesterday in the third round, Sachin, playing
consistently well with a score of 76 to aggregate 233 pulled it off to
be overall winner, with Chanaka having score of 77 to aggregate 235
coming second, and Dhanika registering a score of 76 to have an
aggregate of 238 to come third.
The Silver Division was won by Sachin with Lochana Mathew as runner
up.
The Gold Division was won by Chanaka Perera the 15-year-old lad from
D.S. Senanayake College with Dhanika de Silva as Runner Up.
The Bronze Division was won by 9-year-old, Ishira Fernando, from
Gateway School, and the runner up was Arvind Hirdramani.
The luncheon Awards ceremony was presided over by the president of
the SLGU, Lalith Ramanayake, with the Chief Guest being T.S. Shun, the
General Manager, Ceylon Agro Industries (Prima). A token of appreciation
was presented to, Radha Sundarampillai for her efforts to promote golf
amongst the young.
