Delay in obtaining subsidized fertilizer:

A'pura farmers perturbed

Farmers of the Anuradhapura district are perturbed over the delay in obtaining their subsidized fertilizer for the current Maha season paddy cultivation. A number of farmer organizations accused the fertilizer companies entrusted with the transport, storage and issue of fertilizer of not taking adequate action to bring the stocks needed and store them early to prevent farmers going without fertilizer.

It has been targeted to cultivate 98,000 acres of paddy during the current Maha crop season under the Mahaveli H zone. Anuradhapura District Coordinating Officer Fertilizer Secretariat A.T. Ajith said 50,000 tonnes of fertilizer was needed for distribution through 40 Agrarian Services Centres.
