President accomplished inconceivable task

It is President Mahinda Rajapaksa who wiped out terrorism which dogged the country for three decades and re-united the country when previous Presidents had failed to accomplish it, said Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena when he addressed a seminar to educate the people on the Presidential Election at the Bakamuna Mahaweli Grounds in Minneriya recently.

He said the President was able to accomplish this task because he gave the proper leadership to the Security Forces craftily overcoming pressure from Western powers and winning the confidence of our friendly neighbours.

Today the environment has been created for the people of all communities and religions to live in peace without fear or suspicion thanks to President Rajapaksa and the blessings and support of a grateful nation would enable him to emerge victorious at the forthcoming election and steer the country towards economic development and prosperity.

Minister Sirisena said since terrorism was no more the challenge before us was to win the development war. The giant development schemes in agriculture, power, ports and aviation sectors launched by the Government concurrently with the humanitarian war were nearing completion and these projects could be made a reality only if people strengthened the hands of the President who has 40 years experience in politics and administration by re-electing him.

He also reminded the people that it was Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Prime Minister who committed the greatest betrayal in the history of the country by handing over a section of the country to terrorists through the Ceasefire Agreement. Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Higher Education Minister Prof. Viswa Warnapala also spoke.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera, Agrarian Services Deputy Minister Siripala Gamlath, Lands Deputy Minister and Minneriya SLFP Chief Organiser Chandrasiri Suriyarachchi were also present.
