New OPA President to be inducted
Prof. A.D.V. de S. Indraratna, will be inducted as the President of
the OPA for the session 2009/2010, at the BMICH on December 21, under
the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Chief Guest at the
ceremony. Prof. Indraratna will be the 29th President of the OPA, and
the first Economist to be installed as its President.

Prof. Indraratna, a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri
Lanka (FNASSL), is University of Colombo, Emeritus Professor of
Economics and a Past (1998) General President of the Sri Lanka
Association for the Advancement of Science. He is also the President of
the Sri Lanka Economic Association.
Prof. Indraratna serves as a member of the National Economic Council
and is the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Consultative Committee of the
Central Bank. Prof. Indraratna has been serving the OPA in several
capacities for the past 20 years.
As President-Elect, last year, he organized the 22nd Annual Sessions
very successfully, on the theme "Challenges of the aftermath of the
cessation of terrorist hostilities".
Several Ministers will attend this induction ceremony, as Guests of
Honour. They are Dinesh Gunawardena, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Mahinda Yapa
Abeywardena and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa. Karu Jayasuriya, M.P.,
Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Senior Attorney-at-Law
S.L. Gunasekera will be the other Guests of Honour.
The President is expected to address the professionals on what the
country expects from the professionals in the country. Prof. Indraratna,
will highlight what contribution the professional can make in rebuilding
of the nation. |
