Palestine: Palestine Liberation Organization chief negotiator Saeb
Erekat, slammed on Monday the Israeli Government approval of millions of
dollars for expanding Jewish settlements in West Bank, which it
considered national priority areas.

According to Erekat, who is one of the closest collaborators of
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the measure shows the magnitude of
the farce of the moratorium on the West Bank settlements announced by
Israel, and instead of giving the number one priority to peace; Tel Aviv
continues prioritizing the settlements and the constant colonization of
the occupied territories. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
announced in November that construction activities in the Jewish
settlements of the West Bank would stop for ten months and excluded East
Jerusalem, a measure that was criticized by the Palestine National
Authority and the Arab countries.
The Netanyahu Government passed on Sunday evening the transfer of
million of dollars, as part of new funding to the West bank settlements,
including radical communities which had criticized its moratorium.
The funds passed by the Government will be centered on transport,
education, and health, sectors with the lowest incomes in Israel.
According to Netanyahu, two million Israeli will be benefited,
including Arab communities, while Erekat noted that those funds increase
the population in the settlements three times higher than inside the
Israel's recognized territory.
