Arrangements for receipt of nominations

The Elections Department yesterday announced arrangements for the receipt of nominations on December 17, 2009. The acceptance of nominations for those who made deposits for the Presidential Election scheduled for January 26, 2010 is as follows.

Receipt of nomination will be accepted from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at the Election Secretariat , Rajagiriya.

Written objections can be made to the nomination paper of a candidate by any rival candidate or the person who has signed the nomination paper of such arrival candidate from 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.

The Election Secretariat will permit entry only to candidates, persons who have signed the nomination papers, one other person on behalf of a candidate, 10 invitees of each candidate, media personnel authorized by the Director of Information, staff of the Election Secretariat and authorized security personnel of the candidates.

Meanwhile, eight candidates made their deposits yesterday for the Presidential election 2010, Election Secretariat sources said.

They are K.G.R.L Perera (Ape Jathika Peramuna), Mira Mohadeen Mohamed Mustafa (Independent), Kanagalingam Sivagilingam (Independent), W.M.U.B. Wijekoon (Independent), M.C.M. Smile (Democratic United National Front ), Oswald Aruna de Soysa (Ruhunu Janatha Party), Sanath Pinnaduwa (Jathika Sandanaya), and Adurage Senaratne Silva (Desha Premi Jathika Peramuna).

So far 21 candidates have already made deposits for Presidential Election, 2010. They are from 21 recognized political parties and four others, the sources said.
