Alliance party to join Govt

Another party of the Opposition alliance for the common candidate will extend support to the Government by next week. This revelation was made yesterday at a media briefing by Mass Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena. Two prominent members of the UNP grass roots movement declared their support to the President yesterday.

Nalin Priyantha Sooriyage, Bandarawela Mayor since 1991 and Wayamba Provincial Minister, Sudath Chandrasekera joined to the Government.

Sooriyage noted that the UNP had entered into alliance with a party that had had been traitorous to the country.

Stating that his decision followed great reflection, Chandrasekera delved into the fact that the UNP had worked against the Government during the battle over terrorism, trying to cripple it both in reputation and funding.

He said he was extremely disillusioned with the party and believed that it was his duty to the country to declare Mahinda Rajapaksa as President yet again.
