Floods hit over 60,000 North and East families

Over 60,000 families have been affected by floods following heavy rains, especially in the North and East provinces, National Disaster Management Centre sources said.

Arrangements have been made to distribute dry rations and provide temporary accommodation to the flood victims, sources added.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department ann- ounced that the upper air disturbance is still affecting the weather in the island and wet weather will continue in the Eastern and Northern parts.

Most parts of the island will experience rains accompanied by thunder, the sources said.

The public is requested to take precautions from being struck by lightening.

They have also been advised to switch off their electrical appliances during lightening.
