COMBank seminar for corporate customers

Over 50 corporate customers of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon were recently provided an opportunity to participate in a seminar organized by the Bank to promote understanding of 'Financial Derivatives'.

The Bank's top treasury customers participated in this full day seminar at the Earl's Regency in Kandy.

The speakers at the event were Head of SE Asia Pacific/GCC Global Market Group at ICICI Bank of Mumbai Manish Jain and the Central Bank Assistant Governor Ananda Silva.

The presentations covered managing risk 'with' derivatives, managing risk 'of' derivatives and "New found Strengths, Opportunities and Challenges for businesses".

Though the topic of the seminar sounds very formal, it was anything but that, said Head of Global Markets at Commercial Bank Prins Perera.

Participants were taken to Kandy in the plush comfort of the Viceroy Special train, a 75-year-old private train and the only steam train still in operation in Sri Lanka.

The luxury train has two air-conditioned observation saloons furnished in period style, with 64 plush reclining seats and individual adjustable tables.

After the seminar, it was time to have fun and games. Everybody had a wonderful time enjoying the games that were lined up for them. Toe tapping music kept company whilst Commercial Bank treasury team mingled with their valued customers and got to know them in a more informal setting. It was truly mixing business with pleasure, in the most positive way, Perera said.

"The seminar was greatly appreciated by our corporate customers who deal with companies in the international markets. It highlighted the importance of having a hedging mechanism that guarantees the inflow and outflow of profits," he said.

The competition initiated by Horlicks is South Asia's largest hunt for outstanding students who have a correct balance of character and competence. The Horlicks Wiz Kids competition commenced a few months ago where students from schools in the Western Province engaged in a written questionnaire and an interview round with the judges where general topics such as life, their ambitions and project synopsis were covered.

The two selected candidates from Sri Lanka, Kaushika Nimantha Jayalath from Royal College and Dhanushika Sivanathan from Stafford International School were then taken to Bangalore where they were joined by students from across South Asia.
