The Hilton Colombo was voted Sri Lanka's Leading Business Hotel at
the World Travel Awards (WTM) held in London. The winners are selected
through an online voting system by travel agents around the world. This
year with a 10 percent increase in registration since April has brought
a total number of 183,000 registered voters.
The World Travel Awards are the most comprehensive and most
prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry.
Attended by the leaders of the industry, the World Travel Awards are
regarded as the event and forum that serves to acknowledge, reward and
celebrate the enormous achievements in all sectors of the global travel
industry and also acclaimed by the Wall Street Journal as a world class
competition and the travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars.
World Travel Awards, President and Founder Graham Cooke has said
"World Travel Market is the largest and most important business to
business event for the international travel and tourism industry and the
most appropriate place and time for us to honour and showcase the
ultimate pursuit of excellence throughout every sector and region
worldwide.
The awards critically and objectively compare all aspects of
competition and customer expectations." Hilton Colombo, General Manager
Jerome Auvity said, "We are honoured to have been chosen as Sri Lanka's
Leading Business Hotel at one of the most prestigious events in the
world.
This will definitely encourage my team to work towards great heights
in the future. And for Tourism in Sri Lanka it will be an added benefit
for the country, as apart from the Hilton Colombo, another four leading
hotels in Sri Lanka have won in various categories." In 2007 the Hilton
Colombo was voted the Leading Hotel in Sri Lanka and in 2005 as Sri
Lanka's Best Hotel.
