Sixty seven vehicles to facilitate Northern development

A procession of sixty seven vehicles commenced their journey towards
Vavuniya and Jaffna, from the BMICH yesterday (November 11), donated by
the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Provincial Governance through
Japanese fundings, these vehicles costing an approximate value of Rs.117
million, constitute of a selection of new tractors, trailers, backhoe
loaders, dump trucks, steer loaders and cabs to be deployed for the 'Uthuru
Vasanthaya' program.
Thirty five of these vehicles will be allocated to the Menik Farm
Refugee camp in Vavuniya; while the rest will be put into use under
various Government institutes, i.e. 'Pradeshiya Sabha's, Municipal
Councils and Urban Councils in the Northern Province, including those of
Jaffna, Pallai, Manthai and Surrukkai.
Speaking at present Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri
stated that this was yet another step in the 'Uthuru Vasanthaya'
program, which was gathering momentum. He added that plans of
resettlement were on the fast track forward; emphasizing that these
vehicles would be an enormous asset in the infrastructure development of
the Northern Province.
