J'pura University closed after clashes

The Management and Commerce and Arts Faculties of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura have been temporarily closed till further notice following clashes between student factions.

Registrar of The University of Sri Jayawardenapura, Jayalath Muththetuwegedara stated that a false rumour was being circulated that the whole university had been closed, despite only two faculties having been shut down.

He further stated that the clash had been caused due to a private argument between the student parties involved, and bore no connection to the university administration.

A spokesperson of the Mirihana Police stated that the clashes had occurred at around 11.00 p.m. on November 10 between the students of the Management and Arts Faculties. Following the clashes three students have been admitted to the Jayawardenapura Hospital and two to the Kalubowila Hospital while four have been discharged following treatment.
