Aussie envoy satisfied with welfare villages

Australian Prime Minister's special representative John McCarthy paid a visit to the Chettikulam welfare villages and expressed satisfaction at the facilities provided by the Government to the people at these villages. He said that Australian assistance will be granted in the future as well.

Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Kathy Klugman and several other officials also participated in this fact finding mission and they were received by Vavuniya Government Agent P.S.M. Charles and Vanni Security Forces Commander Major General Kamal Goonaratne. Vavuniya G.A. Charles gave a detailed description of the basic facilities provided by the Government to these people ever since they reached the Government controlled areas.

The delegation gained first hand knowledge of the situation by talking to people during their visit.
