Port activities proceed as usual
Despite the Trade Union action to persuade port workers to join the
work-to-rule campaign at the Colombo Port yesterday, all port activities
were carried out without any severe influence of interference.
All activities of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) were also carried
out as usual.
During the morning hours, the vessels 'High Sea Challenge', 'MSC Asya',
'Pearl River' and 'Southern Unicorn' and 'Alena' had called at the SLPA
while the vessels 'Oocl Chaina', 'Ever Union', 'Lily Royal', 'Kandy' and
'Oocl Sanfransisco' left the Colombo port following operations. Under
the instructions of Port, Aviation, Irrigation and Water Management
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, a special committee had been appointed to
observe all Port activities with the supervision of the SLPA Chairman,
Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama.
The SLPA management has also taken steps to maintain all port
services under normal procedures despite minor incidents of interference
by several Trade Union activists who were engaged in working to the
rule, SLPA press release said.
