Singaporean faces US trial over LTTE arms case
A Singaporean opposition party member will be
extradited to the United States and tried for allegedly trying to
supply arms to the LTTE, officials in Singapore said yesterday.
Businessman Balldev Naidu, 47, is facing six charges including
conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist
organisation and possession of a firearm in 2006, a Court official
told AFP.
Obama hopes for climate deal
President Barack Obama expressed hope Monday for
an “important deal” at the upcoming Copenhaguen conference on
climate change, but admitted it would fall short of resolving the
world’s environmental problems. Obama said climate change was the
main issue he discussed with visiting Swedish Prime Minister,
Fredrik Reinfeldt, ahead of an US-EU summit on Tuesday that is
likely to also take up Afghanisan and the global economic situation.
