VAFA alumni show
VAFA 9th Alumni show is open at VAFA Gallery 5.30pm from October 30
to November 29. The Alumni Association of VAFA started with the 2001
VAFA @13
exhibition. Since then each year in October, VAFA Alumni have
exhibited the work of selected members. The VAFA Alumni Association was
established to support VAFA and help members of the Alumni.VAFA provides
a special space for and sustains the activities of its Alumni.
Participant Artists will be Anura Krishantha, Chammika Jayawardana,
Kusal Gunasekara, Christine Ruth, Sameera Macan Marker, Sameera
Kalupahana and Yamuna Munasinghe.
The VAFA Gallery is situated at No. 38 New Jayaweera Mawatha,
Ethulkotte.
Dahadiya Sittam first place for Sunanda
Sunanda Kodagoda of People's Bank Zone 11 won the first place at the
all island Dahadiya Sittam Photography exhibition, which was held
recently.
The award ceremony was held under the patronage of MP K. D. Lalkantha,
President of National Trade Unions Centre. Sunanda has won a number of
awards earlier as well. He has studied photography at Sri Lanka
Photographic Art Association Hegoda Seya Centre.
Weeraya Merila at Elphinstone
Wearily
Merila (Hero id Dead), a popular play by written and directed by Rajitha
Dissanayake will be staged at the Elphinstone theatre on November 12 at
3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.
The drama which debuted in 2002 presents a nail biting critique on
current social political themes and will feature popular actors
Priyankara Ratnayake, Jayani Senanayake, Dayadewa Edirisinghe, Prasad
Sooriyarachchi, Dharmapriya Dias, Gihan Fernando, Shyam Fernando,
Nilmini Buwaneka, Sampath Jayaweera, Saman Malalasekara and Gihan de
Chickera.
The drama bagged several awards at the State Drama Festival in 2002.
The event is organized by Jude Srimal.
Theertha
exhibition season
Theertha Pradarshana Wasanthaya, an annual exhibition showcasing
talents of artists will once again take shape at the Red Dot Gallery.
This year the works of three artists will be on display under the theme
of 'Skin'.
Bandu Manamperi will showcase his works from October 7 to November 9
while Koralegedara Pushpakumara will display his creations from November
14 to December 7. Sarath Kumarasiri's art pieces will be exhibited from
December 12 to January 4. In addition to this line up four new artists,
Saman Liyanage, Anura Widanaaarachchi, Shamila Kumari and Inoka de Silva
representing the 'Freshly Baked' category will showcase work from
January 23 to March 4.
LEGENDS on Planet Pulse
A walk down memory lane? Channel One MTV presents 'LEGENDS on Planet
Pulse', a musical treat of hits from the 60's , 70's and the 80's from
November 3 on Tuesday Nights from 9.30 p.m. to10.30 p.m.
For those young at heart, tunes that climbed the charts during this
time will be showcased In a unparalleled manner and personally delivered
to you, for one full hour as Danu gives a distinct theme every night,
from live bands in studio, to R&B, Jazz , Rock 'n" Roll and Disco.
Dedications, One on One interviews, requests all this and more dished
out on 'Legends on Planet Pulse'.

Prabhath Mirihagalle's Tarzan Saha Thahanam Nararaya was launched at
the Dayawansa Jayakody Book Exhibition Hall, Colombo 10 on November 3.
This ia the authentic Sinhala translation of Edgar Rice Burroughs'
popular novel 'Tarzan and the Forbidden City'.
Mirihagalle is also the author of Tarzan Saha Divi Minissu, Tarzan
Saha Aatharamanvu Yathrikayo and others. His latest book is a Dayawansa
Jayakody Publication.
Drama season at John de Silva
The dramas chosen for the final round of the National Drama Festival
will go on boards John de Silva from November 3 to 10. Hari Apuru
davasak, Ahinsakayenge Aramaya, Sahan Ranwala asai Welawa Keeyada?,
Jaganma, Apahu Herenna Bae, Sihina Walata Paata Denna, Mutte and Aal
Kadaklil Oru Sapnam will be the dramas which will be features at the
event. The event is organized by the National art Council and the
National Drama Council.
Annesley strolls 'Down Memory Lane'
The Welfare Society of Peoples Leasing in Association with Annesley
Malawana will present a star-studded musical show titled 'Going Down
Memory Lane with Peoples Leasing' at the Bishops College auditorium on
November 7 at 7 p.m.
Dharmaratne Brothers, Mariazelle Gunatileke, Indrani Perera, Rajive
Sebastian, Ronnie Lietch and Annesley Malawana will take part in the
event. Annesley and the Super chimes will provide the music. Faizal
Bonso will compere the event.
This is the first musical show organized by the Welfare Society of
Peoples Leasing.
Nawaka Bumi cultural show
The undergraduates of the Sri Jayawardanapura University will
showcase Nawaka Bumi, a cultural show at the Bandaranaike hall of the
university premises on November 5 at 6 p.m. An array of song, dance, and
concert items make up the program line up.
