Portraits and self-portraits
Solidarité Laïque and SIMV present an exhibition 'Portraits /
Self-portraits 20/20' to mark the 20th anniversary of the Convention on
the Rights of the Child, Solidarité. It comprises the portraits of
children photographed by French cineaste, Gilles Porte and also the
children's drawings.
The exhibition was inaugurated by French Ambassador Michel Lummaux at
the Viharamaha Devi Park on October 30.
It will be opened to public from October 31 to November 8 and the
second exhibition will take place in Cultural Centre at Istouti Village,
Hambantota from November 10 to 20. Entrance free.
The Exhibition Portraits / Self-portraits 20/20 by Gilles Porte will
be launched to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of Convention on the
Rights of Child. The Exhibition comprises the portraits of children
photographed by French cineaste, Gilles Porte and also the children's
drawings.
In 2005 Gilles Port invited children to draw their self portraits in
white on a black paper and Gilles photographed them.
It's in Kenya, on a trip to visit his sister working at Medecins Sans
Frontières, that Gilles Porte was able to widen his collection of
photographs.
With the help of various NGOs such as Solidarité Laïque, Clowns Sans
Frontières, Ligue des Droits de l'Homme, new portraits of kids were
taken in Egypt, Tunisia, Moldavia, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Benin,
Senegal and Canada and all over the world. From that time, Gilles Porte
has done 30 exhibitions and has directed 80 short films. An album-book
entitled Portrait, auto portrait written by Gilles Port in collaboration
with Juliette Robert was published on October 15. This book published by
Le Seuil, comprises drawings and pictures taken in 20 different
countries. |
