Dialog President's Gold Cup VB Provincial C'ship begins

The provincial stage of the Dialog President's Gold Cup volleyball tourney gets under way today.

Already 40 men's and 36 women's teams from district level have qualified to play in this tourney. Only Ratnapura district have failed complete their matches and the organisers hope conduct these matches today and tomorrow at Seevali MV courts, Ratnapura.

For the first time in the volleyball history the Northern Province matches will be conducted in Jaffna and Vavuniya. Western, Uva and Eastern Provincial matches are scheduled to be completed today and tomorrow while the Central Provincial matches are to be played on October 13.

Only two women's teams from Matale and Ampara districts have made their way to the provincial tourney while all other districts managed to enter four teams for this stage. The qualifiers from Ratnapura district will join the provincial tournament next week. - (BP)
