Attack on officials postpones hockey tourney

The inter-university hockey tournament which was scheduled to commence yesterday at the university ground Peradeniya has been indefinitely postponed, following assault by the unidentified persons on the Director of Physical Education and the hockey coach of the Kelaniya University.

The incident has taken place while the two officials were taking a night walk. The reasons for this assault is not known.

The officials have lodged a complaint with the Peradeniya police and left with their team yesterday.

Teams from Jaffna, Ruhunu, Rajarata, Sabaragamuwa, Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura, Wayamba, Batticaloa, Moratuwa had arrived at Peradeniya to participate in this tournament but with the postponement they had to leave without playing a match.
