‘Panadol For Children’ (PFC) a paracetamol based brand of consumer
healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is now manufactured locally at
GSK’s factory in Ratmalana. The company began local production of
Panadol for children liquid in September 2009 to international
standards,
Minister of Industrial Development, Kumara Welgama said, “We all know
that Panadol is a household name in Sri Lanka which has earned a
reputation for many generations. I am happy that Panadol for children
which was imported from Indonesia and distributed is to be replaced by
the locally manufactured items.
This would enable Sri Lanka to save valuable foreign exchange and
also encourage the local manufacturing industry.”
“By producing Panadol for children locally we wish to make the point
that Sri Lanka is a country capable of producing high quality products
to rigorous international standards and stand as a benchmark for
standards and capability to other countries”, said GSK Consumer
Healthcare Managing Director Sachi Thomas.
By commencing the production of Panadol for children locally, GSK
will also be able to augment the economy by reducing cash flow out of
the country due to importations.
