Kilinochchi to get Rs 85 m vocational training centre

The younger generation in Sri Lanka should be educated for the
country to have a better future, said Vocational Training Authority
Chairman, Admiral Daya Sandagiri.
He was speaking at the launch of the project website “Light to life”.
The project was initiated by Rotary International District 3320, JWT and
the Vocational Training Authority to set up a full-fledged Vocational
Training Centre in Kilinochchi.
He said that the participation of the younger generation is essential
to develop Sri Lanka and they should be guided for a better future to
accelerate development in war-torn areas. The Vocational training centre
in Kilinochchi will enable people in the Kilinochchi district to obtain
vocational qualifications. The project is expected to be launched in two
years in Kilinochchi with an investment of Rs. 85 million.
The courses conducted at the Vocational Training Institute,
Kilinochchi will be job oriented. In addition career guidance,
counselling and propagation of IT skills for the rural community will be
promoted through this institute. Hence, the young people affected by the
war will be integrated in to the workforce of the country. Twelve
courses including, Carpentry, Computer Application and other courses
related to new technology will be provided. In addition a special
English language course will be conducted for skills development, said
CEO, JWT, Thayalan Bartlett.
He said that the sponsors will facilitate the construction of the
building, equipment and support English education.
