Children of Biyagama Kanishta test their skills on NZ Cricket team
The recently concluded Tri Series may not have brought them a
historic victory but a visit by the New Zealand cricket team to Biyagama
Kanishta Vidyalaya certainly created a historic moment for the school
children.

at a friendly cricket match. |
The visit was hosted by Fonterra, a New Zealand company, who
neighbours the school and supports it as part of its community
development program.
Players Ross Taylor, Ian Butler and team manager David Curry, were
greeted by the School’s Principal and cheers from the students.
They soon joined the children on the field, where a fun cricket game
allowed them to test their bowling skills on Ross Taylor, who took up
the position as batsmen.
A few budding cricketers walked away with high praise from the world
class cricketers.
“It was a proud moment for our school” said Biyagama Kanishta
Vidyalaya Principal K. Liyanage.
“The cricketers are great role models for our children and provide a
source of inspiration for what they can dream of and achieve.”
The team then moved on to Fonterra’s cultured milk plant to mingle
with Fonterra’s employees while sampling Newdale yoghurts made from raw
milk of local Sri Lankan dairy farmers.
Fonterra’s Managing Director in Sri Lanka, Achyut Reddy, said the
staff were delighted to show off Fonterra’s Sri Lankan operations to the
Kiwis and have the opportunity to receive the cricketers autographs. |
