Central Province U-17 champions

Central Province became champions at the Inter Provincial under 17 cricket tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Cricket when they beat Colombo North Outer on a faster run rate under the Parabola system in the finals played at the Rangiri Dambulu International Cricket Stadium at Dambulla on Thursday.

Overnight rain and rain in the morning restricted play initially to 29 overs per side.

Central Province taking first strike ran up a match winning total of 200 for 8 wickets in their allotted 29 overs.

Skipper Akila Jayasundera of Trinity College top scored with a hard hit 47 which had 7 fours and he was supported by Rajan Sadun Weerakoddy who made 44.

Kavinda Jayasuriya scored a quick 30.

Colombo North Outer chasing a victory target of 200 in 29 overs were never in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals and at one time were in the danger of being dismissed within the 29 overs.

To some extent they put up the shutters before bad light stopped play before the scheduled close. At that point Colombo North Outer were struggling at 69 for 8 in 22 overs.

Trinitians Akila Jayasundera 2 for 13, Heshan Thisera 2 for 4, and Kavinda Jayasuriya picked up the wickets.
