Four teams from Jaffna qualifies

The Dialog President's Gold Cup District level matches were completed over the last week end with five districts Jaffna, Trincomalee, Badulla, Vavuniya and Gampaha conducting their games which also found the teams to play in the national stage. The highlight here was the conducting of district level matches in Jaffna after a lapse of nineteen years. This also happens to be the first ever national level tournament conducted here organised by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.

Over forty teams in the mens and womens category participated.


The third leg of the President gold cup volleyball tournaments commenced covering Gampaha, Badulla, Trincomalee, Jaffna and Vavuniya Districts. After 19 years Jaffna District Volleyball Association organized this National level tournament. Jaffna District tournament was held at Jaffna Central College ground and President, Jaffna District Volleyball Association, K. Ehambaram along with secretary K. Manoharan and Northern Province Chief Manager, Dialog Telecom M. Dilan were present at the opening ceremony.

The spectator attendance too was encouraging on both days.

In the mens category Hindu Youth SC Araramkal and Pradeep SC Anathattai qualified to play in the last stage of the national championship.

In the womens section Pathmagal SC Pandanthirappu and Youth SC, Chankunai made their way to the final stage.

In Trincomalee too enthusiasm was great as many volleyball fans thronged the courts to witness high class of spiking from players representing all communities.

The qualifiers from the five districts are as follows:

Jaffna: Men-Hindu Youth SC, Ararankal, Pradeep SC, Anthottai,

Women: Pathmagal SC Pandanthiruppu, Youth SC, Chankanai.

Trincomalee: Men-Ran Samanala SC, Kantalai, A.S.C. Wellamanel SC, Kinniya, Mihindupura SC Trincomalee, Mohidia SC, Kinniya.

Women: Agbopura SC, Kantalai, Mihindupura SC Trincomalee, Mullipathana Sinhala MV SC, Fatima SC, Trincomalee,

Badulla: Men - Little Garments SC, Bandarawela, Rober SC, Haputale, Vivekananda SC, Badulla, Red line SC, Bandarawela

Women: Tenne Panguwa SC, Kandeketiya, Kandeketiya SC, Badulla.

Vavuniya: Men-United SC, Vavuniya, SIA Sports Club, Ulukkulama

Women: Hela Viru SC Periya Ulukkulama Familians SC Vavuniya.

Gampaha: Men - Siriduwa SC, Seeduwa Siyane Tharu SC, Gampaha, Golden Birds SC, Radawana West Town SC, Negombo.

Women: Golden Birds SC, Radawana Siyane Tharu SC, Gampaha St. Mary's SC Pitipana Jayashakthi SC, Kinnimahara. BP
