Battaramulla 'Speedrome' launched
The Mclarens Group of Companies launched its Karting circuit for the
benefit of the aspiring drivers on Wednesday at Battaramulla. On this
day two exhibition races were held to mark the opening of the circuit.
The first event saw many popular figures in the country participating to
the surprise of all present to witness the this. The dancing star
created history on this day winning the inaugural event beating more
fancied competitors. The event saw the participation of Yoshitha
Rajapaksa, Aravinda de Silva the former cricketer who is a keen fan of
motor cars along with the lady driver S.A. Lakshika and Jackson Anthony.
Dushanth Weeraman, the Dancing Star who has taken to go
Karting in action on the opening day of the Go Karting track
at Battaramulla. Weeraman went on to win the first event
while Yoshitha Rajapaksa was the runner up to him. |
Yoshitha Rajapaksa was placed second while Lakshika who was in the
lead had to settle with the third position.
The second event for the day also saw leading drivers show their
interest for this type of fun filled Karting racing. Dinesh Deheragoda,
Romani de Silva, Janka Dias, Ashan de Silva and young Rikaz Khalid in
action. Ashan de Silva who has great promise in the recent past
specially in the Super Car events went on to win this event comfortably.
He was followed by Pasindu Pieris and Rikaz Khalid.
The opening of this circuit will serve the racing fans who are keen
to take to motor racing in the future. The circuit will help all
interested parties irrespective of the age groups. This will be kept
open n all days of the week for the benefit of all.
According to the management of the circuit aspiring fans can make
arrangements to get themselves registered with them as early as possible
to avoid congession.
The organizers will be arranging vehicles and instructions through
qualified instructors who will take charge of them. The 500 meter track
can be put use by the the trainees. All entrants should be above 8 years
of age.
